BIO-INTEL-MOB takes off in Rome: Kick-off Meeting marks project launch

The BIO-INTEL-MOB Kick-off Meeting took place in Rome on 20–21 January 2026, hosted by the Faculty of Civil and Industrial Engineering of Sapienza University of Rome. The two-day event officially launched the project, bringing together consortium partners, pilot cities, and representatives of the European Commission to align on the project’s vision, governance framework, and initial implementation roadmap.

The meeting opened with welcome remarks from the Project Coordinator (Sapienza University of Rome). A tour de table introduced 27 partners from 10 EU member states and 5 partners from 3 associated countries, highlighting their roles and fostering early collaboration.

On Day 1, discussions focused on the project concept and architecture, showcasing key innovations such as advanced Mobility Data Space (aMDS), Digital Twins, Green Smart Routing Algorithms (GSRA), Smart City Governance (SCGo) tools, and bioPLU concepts. Sessions for Work Packages 1–4 covered project management, methodological and digital foundations, data collection and integration, and the structure of pilots and demonstration activities across mega pilots, satellites, and follower cities. The day ended with the implementation roadmap for the first six months, defining key deliverables, milestones, and coordination mechanisms.

Day 2 addressed impact assessment, policy and standardisation, exploitation strategies, communication, dissemination, and citizen engagement through Work Packages 5–7. Horizontal sessions covered ethics, GDPR compliance, AI Act alignment, data governance, interoperability, risk management, and quality assurance. Interactive breakout groups further advanced technical integration, governance, and city-level implementation.

Overall, the Kick-off Meeting marked a key milestone for the nearly €10 million project, establishing a shared understanding of objectives, roles, and priorities, and laying strong foundations for coordinated implementation across all pilot and follower cities.
